Job Summary:
A temporary, part-time internship position that requires a significant degree of interest in Geographic Information Systems. Individual will be helping develop spatial databases in support of land use planning, transportation planning, economic development, and environmental and open space planning.
Essential Functions:
1) Gathers and digitizes spatial information, as needed.
2) Prepares maps, graphs and charts, as needed.
3) Responsible for integrating information from external sources with OKI’s internal databases; ensures value and integrity of integrated databases.
4) Global positioning system (GPS) data logging.
5) Assists in the development of Metadata.
5) Assists department manager with GIS related issues.
6) Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
Geography or Urban Planning Student.
Strong GIS skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of general cartographic methodology, practices, and procedures.
Computer proficiency - including ArcGIS, Microsoft Access, Word and Excel.
Experience in database management.
Familiarity with grid systems and projections.
Individual must be creative and self-motivated.
Length: September 2008 – June 2009 (not to exceed total of 950 hours)
Hours: Flexible hours (20 – 25 hours per week)
Pay: Range of $10 to $12 an hour
Parking: $2/day or free bus pass provided
