Strategic Regional Policy Plan


In April 2005, after extensive review by local officials and public participation, OKI’s Board adopted a Strategic Regional Policy Plan. This blueprint for change entitled Where Do We Grow From Here?: A Strategic Regional Policy Plan is being implemented on a voluntary basis over a period of years by OKI, local governments and other organizations.

Regional Planning Forum


Planners across the region face the challenge of improving our communities, our institutions, our public services and our development opportunities in sustainable and fiscally responsible ways, in difficult and uncertain economic times, with tools that are constantly changing. The purpose of the Forum is to create a regional outlet for sharing information, experience and expertise among planners and those in related disciplines so that we can provide the best possible quality of life for those who live and work in our region. Fiscal Impact Analysis Model


OKI has developed a Fiscal Impact Analysis Model to give decision makers a better understanding of the budgetary implications of land use change. The Model is an educational tool for use in the OKI region that estimates potential future expenditures and revenues.

Regional Water Quality Planning


Regional water quality management planning is required by the Clean Water Act for all metropolitan areas.  By federal law, states cannot issue discharge permits for wastewater treatment facilities that conflict with regional plans.

Greenspace


OKI promotes the conservation of greenspace for the benefits of conserving natural systems and their functions, adding economic value to communities, and improving the quality of people’s lives. OKI’s Greenspace Program was established to address local interest in conserving greenspace as the region grows.

Grants and Special Projects


OKI coordinates and manages efforts for a number of water quality related initiatives, studies and committees.  Through collaboration with local governments and agencies in the region, OKI has also been successful in obtaining grants for projects that demonstrate ways to reduce pollution and preserve the region’s valuable water resources.
