Regional Water Quality Management Planning

The Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI) has updated the Water Quality Management Plan for Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren Counties in southwest Ohio, and for Dearborn County in Southeast Indiana. Water Quality Management Plans are required by Section 208 of the federal Clean Water Act to identify water pollution problems in metropolitan areas and recommend how to address them, while avoiding duplications of effort by local sewer agencies.

Regional water quality management planning is required by the Clean Water Act for all metropolitan areas.  By federal law, states cannot issue discharge permits for wastewater treatment facilities that conflict with regional plans.  We work with local governments to determine who provides sewer service and the areas in which it will be provided, so that duplication of effort is avoided and government dollars are used cost-effectively.
